Opening week was a week that the Bucs were looking forward to after their departure from the playoffs last season. After going from 7-9 to 12-4 and winning the NFC South, expectations are high this season to gain respect in the FNG.
The Bucs opening game against the Saints was a statement game winning 49-13. All parts were working as the Bucs blasted the Saints in all areas of this game. Defensively they gave Brees all he could handle as the defensive line gave him fits all day. They only recorded 2 sacks, but with the pressure forced 6 ints for Brees. "We wanted to come and let the FNG that we are serious on D. We have all the parts to put together and awesome season. I don't see where we have a flaw on D. It will be exciting to watch." said LB Rudd. Rudd had 2 picks on the afternoon.
A.Been hit the pay dirt 2 times, and had 5 catches for 189yds. The rushing was lead by 2012 Team MVP B.Scott for 115 yds on 26 carries. Palmer had a good day throwing the ball 10/19, 209 yds and 2 ints. "Overall I liked what I saw, a few bad choices got the picks, but I was seeing the field good. We had a short field to deal with all day that was given to us by our defense, which allowed for short quick possesions." said C.Palmer.
Coach Nation in his post game conference said,"Today was better than expected. Anytime you play a rival and control the game like we did, always feels good. I was really excited to have our rookies play good ball. We took some heat by drafting a KR in the 3rd round, but P.Boates showed his explosivness taking his first touch 99 yds to paydirt. We have a play maker at every position now. This season is going to be challenging and I think we are up to it."
