Week 2: Season 3
49ers 31 - Patriots 17
I've been in this league for 6 seasons (between Madden 10 & 11) and this was my first opportunity to play the New England Patriots. (GoddamnNick) I was looking forward to this game. I knew he would be pretty challenging, because he made the playoffs the last 3 years, and won the AFC East once or twice.
Game summary: I had control of the game early. My first play from scrimmage was a rush for -2 yards. My next play was an 81 yard rush for a TD by Frank Gore. His next drive took almost the rest of the quarter away. And he wasn't just running. Tom Brady is an efficiant passer, and Nick used him well. He seemed to get better the more he threw the ball. After the Patriots scored a Field Goal, Tedd Ginn returned a kickoff back for 6. Once I stopped Nick, and scored, we just started exchanging scores and there was not enough time left in the second half for him to mount a come back.
Offense:
Nick throws alot of short to medium passes. He will do this out of the single back 2 TE set, or the I-form 1 TE set. He didn't use Shotgun too much, and his offensive line gave him plenty of time to make reads. I didn't see him stretch the field much. It could have been because I would blitz every so often. Not consitantly enough for him to expect it, but just enough to make Tom "Terriffic" thow some errant passes. When he did throw deep, he threw interceptions. (3)
Defense:
Because he didn't see my offense before this game, he came out in the 46 defense. I got my long runs when he was in those defensive packages. He had a hard time stopping he run so against me that's a problem. If I had 1 critique... Nick needs to blitz a little more.
All in alll, it was a good experience playing him, and I look forward to seeing him in the final "playoff" game.
